Back in Business

You heard it here.  I am back in business.  My rock tumbler broke, then we fixed it, then it broke, then we fixed it, then it broke for reals.  The good news is that we got a new one from eBay with TWO barrels to double production.

To celebrate, I just opened my Etsy Store and already sold one item to my mom’s friend Allison.  She is an artist too.  Sadly, for my customers, The Pink Party was one of a kind and is no linger for sale.

Also, look at this cool rock that I collected in New Mexico and tumbled in Duxbury, Vermont.  I can do custom orders – contact me at  jacksonsgemstones@gmail.com.

Colorado

So, our rock tumbler broke.  We finally got a new one with TWO barrels to double production.

The bad news is that we are on vacation so we can’t tumble rocks.  The good news is that I got new rocks and gems when we visited the Rocky Mountains.

There is a rock shop in Estes Park where I picked up some new specimens.  Rose quartz, blue calcite, lepidolite, quartz and arrowheads.

It’s back to work and back to school after my trip to Colorado. I have an Etsy store too but it’s not ready yet.

Valentines

It’s Valentine’s Day so I decorated these boxes for my friends.  Each of them got a piece of freshly tumbled granite from my latest batch. There was one one piece of rose quartz that Isabella in my class got.

Happy Valentine’s Day earth. May you keep making rocks and candy.

blow drying my rocks

I got a new batch of rocks. They were wet so I used my mom’s hair dryer. Water is important for making rocks smooth because it acts like nature…

I am eating pop rocks now.  I dropped one on the floor but the floor is pretty clean so I am going to eat it.

The first thing I do when my rocks are out of the tumbler and dried is to sort them into collections to sell.  My most expensive collection is $34.  The tiny rock collection is $6.  My mom’s friend Danika picked out a rock that came out of our new batch.  It is going to be a ring.  And one granite collection is $10 for the black one, $5 for the others.

We still have to put eye-balls on the rocks.  I am taking orders, please contact me at jacksonsgemstones@gmail.com

My knee feels a lot better.  I am getting a new cast in 2 days.

I broke me knee

I broke my knee skiing at Bolton Valley.  I told my mom to follow me.  I went over a jump and it was really icy.  Then I slid down the hill at least 30 feet and my leg twisted on the way down because I was curled up in a ball and my leg was sticking out.  And then we waited for ski patrol, they brought me down in the sled.  It was going quicker than I imagined.  Then they brought me into the clinic and they put my leg in a splint made out of a cardboard box.  And since my name is Jackson – I was a Jack with the leg in the box.

Then they put me in the car, my mom brought me to the urgent care.  They took x-rays there and found out my knee was fractured.  But the people back at the ski clinic thought it was just a bad bruise.

I am going to see a surgeon this week of December 25th, 2016.

Rocks are tumbling.

Busy in December

My mom put a new batch of rocks into the rock tumbler today.  First of all, we broke up the rocks into pieces about 1/2 – 3/4 inch, some can be an inch but there can only be like one or two, or 16 ,000,000 in the whole batch.  First, we put the rocks into the drum, this is what they call the container that the rocks tumble in.  Next, we added coarse grit and water and put it on my rock tumbler.  I have a Thumler’s Tumbler.  Now we leave  it for 7 days tumbling then we rinse the rocks, add fine grit and start tumbling again.  I will post pictures of them on my website after each round of tumbling.

My Grandma sent me a space rock crystal growing kit in my advent calendar.  It is so fun, it is baking in the microwave right now.  In 7 to 14 days I will have pink or red crystals.

Holiday sales are 20% off until Christmas.  That is only on the website, if you buy them in person, they are full price.  Contact me through my website to order, or to find out how to buy them in person.

Do you want to find out?  I will tell you in my next blog post.

My Scarlett Runner Beans

I’m expanding my beeswax from rocks to seeds.  I learned about seeds in school.  These seeds grow in pods in the outer edge of the parking lot.  They are called Scarlett runner beans.  When they dry they are black with purple spots.  They kind of look weird with eyes on them. They would look weirder without eyes on them on a ring.

I have two rings for sale right now. But my Mom’s friend already bought one so now there is only one for sale.  Because I can only get beans in spring, summer and fall – now that it’s is winter there are not any seed pods left.  I am charging an extra one dollar fee, this ring is four dollars, instead of the normal price of three.

I still have lots of other rings for sale.

The Granite Dream

We had a diamond tipped drill to make granite cores.  You know what’s funny? It actually surprisingly worked.  We accidentally made 20 million because we got too excited.  They are not all in the picture.

We got the black slab on the bottom at Rock of Ages, home of the world famous Barre Granite.  There is a little van at Rock of Ages that stays and chillaxes while the visitors bowl on the Granite bowling alley in the woods.
Wake up Jackson, quit your dreaming.
